🌿 Olive Tree Care Guide

Olea europaea — A stylish, sun-loving tree that brings Mediterranean vibes to your home.

☀️ Light

Olive trees need at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily. A south-facing window is ideal. If natural light is limited, consider supplementing with a grow light.

💧 Watering

Let the top inch or two of soil dry out between waterings. Olive trees do not like to sit in soggy soil—water thoroughly, then let excess drain completely. In winter, reduce watering.

🌡️ Temperature & Humidity

They prefer temperatures between 65–80°F (18–27°C). While they can tolerate cooler temperatures (down to about 40°F/4°C), keep them away from cold drafts or heating vents indoors. Olive trees are naturally drought-tolerant and don’t need high humidity.

🌱 Soil & Potting

Use a well-draining potting mix, ideally blended with sand or perlite. A terracotta pot with drainage holes works well to wick away excess moisture. Repot every 2–3 years or when root-bound.

🌿 Feeding

Fertilize once a month in spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer. Avoid over-fertilizing; olive trees are slow-growing and don’t need much.

✂️ Pruning & Shaping

Prune in early spring to shape the tree and remove any dead or crossing branches. Regular pruning encourages a bushier appearance.

⚠️ Common Issues

  • Yellow leaves = Often a sign of overwatering or poor drainage.

  • Sparse growth = Not enough sunlight.

  • Pests = Watch for scale or spider mites, especially in dry indoor air.
